This publication resulted from a first series of workshops with farmers, in April 2004, and was designed as a 'primer' ahead of further work. For Gavin and Fred, and Mark Fisher who assisted with this phase of the work, it was a bit like producing a first CD which didn't quite go to the top of the charts but made a good impression. The success of this booklet provided us with a challenge for our 'second CD'.

Adapting to climate change in eastern New Zealand: A farmer perspective

As the work evolved Fred and Gavin developed their macro, meso, micro picture. This provided the structure for the final publication. The macro and micro pictures reflect the theme of 'thinking globally, acting locally'. The real challenge for us all is to work together on the meso picture. This became very clear to us in workshops with farmers and others. Farmers were very comfortable at the micro scale as they could readily express thinking and ideas relating to what they are doing on their farms. At the meso scale we found that people initially struggled as a lot of issues and barriers tended to arise. This has led to further thinking and work on what we need to be doing as communities for the future.
